Despite nearly four decades of awareness efforts, too many drivers continue to ignore the stop sign on school buses. In just four years, the number of tickets issued has increased by 15%. Even more concerning, 51.8% of these offences are committed by drivers aged 25 to 44, an age group that largely corresponds to parents of school-aged children.
Faced with this alarming reality, the FTA has chosen to adopt a more direct and impactful approach. The message of the 2026 campaign is clear and unequivocal: stopping for a school bus stop sign is not optional. No matter the urgency or daily obligations, children’s safety must always come first.
